Ms. Nakia has been teaching and caring for children for 10 years in various types of programs throughout Alberta. She has experience working with children ages 0-12 years old but has spent the last 8 years teaching preschool age children in a variety of preschool settings. Ms. Nakia plans on starting her degree in Child Studies after completing her diploma in Early Learning and Childcare.
She takes as many opportunities to further her knowledge and skills in child development through training and professional development. She loves to stay active and spend as much time as possible outdoors, exploring in nature alongside her students. She has a bubbly personality and loves to teach through song, dance, laughter and exploration.
When Ms. Nakia is not at school she is busy at home caring for her adopted daughter with special needs. Ms. Nakia looks forward to meeting all the children and their families! Also looking forward to a great year!
Ms. Kelly graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Child and Youth Study and minoring in Psychology. Ms. Kelly also holds a Level 3 Early Childhood Educator certification. Since 2013, she has worked in various diverse settings, teaching and caring for children and youth. With her calm, kind and approachable personality, she loves supporting children in learning their own understandings of the world that they live, grow, and play in.
Ms. Kelly also holds a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification, as well as Kids and Youth Yoga Teacher Training. She finds joy, calmness and peace with her ongoing yoga practice, and enjoys sharing her yoga and mindfulness with the students she works with.
Ms. Kelly loves spending time outdoors and in nature. When she is not in the classroom, Ms. Kelly enjoys staying active, walking with her dog, and gardening. She is very excited to meet the children and families at Discovery Preschool and have a fun school year!
Ms. Kelly is on maternity leave and will be returning in 2026. We’re excited for this special time in her life and wish her and her growing family all the best. Our school community looks forward to warmly welcoming her back in the new year.
We are delighted to welcome Ms. Sue as our long-term substitute teacher while Ms. Kelly is on maternity leave.
Ms. Sue brings a warm, joyful presence to the classroom and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to share in children’s sense of wonder each day.
With a nurturing approach shaped by her experience raising four children and now enjoying life as a grandmother, she creates an environment where students feel supported, curious, and confident.
Outside of the classroom, Sue loves spending time with her family, road-tripping with her husband, and enjoying the outdoors—whether swimming, water skiing, biking, walking, or soaking up summers at Christina Lake. She’s also looking forward to downhill skiing this year.
We’re excited to have Sue with us and know students will thrive under her care during this transition.
